Presidential candidate Tom Steyer is now hiring staff in Tennessee, having beaten many other Democratic presidential candidates to the punch, according to The Nashville Post.
“Tequila Johnson, a leader with The Equity Alliance and the Tennessee Black Voter Project, has been working as Steyer’s state director for several weeks. The Equity Alliance recently hired Johnson’s fellow co-founder Charlane Oliver as its first full-time executive director,” the website reported.
“Steyer, a former hedge fund manager, started NextGen America in order to fund progressive action on climate change, health care, education and immigration. He also spent millions of dollars on a messaging campaign supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump before launching his own presidential campaign.”
As The Nashville Post went on to report, U.S. Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts already has a campaign director in Tennessee.
“Other leading campaigns said they’re working on investing in Tennessee, which hasn’t attracted much attention from presidential candidates in recent cycles,” according to The Nashville Post.
As reported earlier this month, the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Division of Elections recently issued a petition to former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg so his name can appear on Tennessee’s Democratic presidential preference primary ballot on March 3.
This, according to Tennessee Secretary of State spokeswoman Julia Bruck, who told The Tennessee Star the office issued the petition to Bloomberg.
According to the Tennessee Secretary of State’s website, there are two ways to qualify to appear on March 3’s presidential primary ballot in Tennessee as a Republican or Democratic Party candidate for the presidential nomination.
The Secretary of State is required to submit a list of names to appear on each party’s primary ballot to the State Election Commission no later than December 3 of this year.
Bloomberg would have to gain access to the primary ballot by submitting a petition signed by at least 2,500 registered voters before noon on December 3.
